Pillow Making 101

I got busy making a pillow cover last night. I was inspired by my Mom after she spent days and days making several very cute pillows for my house.

Before I reveal the pillow let me tell you how I did it.

First I measured and cut the fabric, but before I stitched it together I made a design on the front using masking tape and a blue sharpie pen. Huh?

Let me explain. I decided to make the pillow look like a vintage grain sack by drawing some lines on the pillow. Similar to these pillows:

A few pieces of masking tape to make straight line, a blue sharpie and voila!

It's not perfect, but I really like the way it turned out. Especially since this was my very first attempt at pillow sewing/fabric designing.

Might try to make this pattern next time:

And speaking of pillows, one of the pillows Mom made needed a little something. So I made a fabric flower and tried attaching it to the pillow. Not good.

So I tried in a different spot on the pillow and it was still not quite right.

So I removed the flower and decided it looks best plain. I still love the pillow. Thanks Mom!
