I Love Italian Monks.

Nancy and I made soft pretzels a few weeks ago.

I love soft pretzels.

Especially with mustard. Or cheese. Or plain. Warm out of the oven.

When I was pregnant with David and had morning sickness pretzels were the only food that didn't make me feel queasy.

Anyhoo, back to making pretzels with Nancy. They were fun to make and yummy. And she and I might have future careers in the pretzel making world!

A little pretzel trivia- in 610 AD an Italian monk decided to create a treat for his students. He rolled out ropes of bread dough and twisted them to resemble hands crossed in prayer and baked them. He christened the snacks pretiola, which is Latin for little reward. Parents who tasted the treats referred to them as brachiola, or little arms. When pretiola arrived in Germany, they were called bretzels.

Thank you, Italian monk. I love pretzels.
